This painting cost me a lot of time: I started it in 2021 while I was in the middle of my therapy journey. I wanted to represent a liberation from the past, from my worst monsters. The monsters that haunt you with anger, secrets, trauma, judgment, the inability to observe and the tongue for poison. I wanted to represent my looking at them, while I undressed this robe. I didn’t want this dress anymore. But I didn’t finished to paint the picture in 2021, because I wasn’t ready. I hadn’t stripped myself of the demons yet, I was just on the path to doing so. Internally I didn’t feel it was right. Then there was the move from Berlin, which had blocked my paintings away from me. Finally, I finished it yesterday. Because it’s really time for a new phase in my life, it’s time to move on. I no longer feel this robe on me, I no longer feel the weight of those monsters, so it’s time to show the finished work. I put everything into it, I even wrote it to underline with myself a total liberation.
